Man-Up Mondays!

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW, SHIT! The first brother to grace MAN-UP MONDAYS is here!

PRINCE YAPHET FREDRICK KOTTO (November 15, 1937 – Still Kickin’)

Prince Kotto has appeared in almost 100 roles on the big and small screen including films by PAUL SCHRADER, BARRY SHEAR, and ARTHUR MARKS….which makes it hard to pick my favorites…so I won’t. But here’s a few Kotto roles you might be familiar with…

I had alway thought BILLY DEE WILLIAMS was the first black man in space, but it turns out that YAPHET beat out BILLY DEE by a year thanks to his assignment as ship engineer and the token black guy aboard THE NOSTROMO.

But before he blasted off into space, he was killer pimp, HAVARD BLUE, in TRUCK TURNER!

And a year before that he went toe to toe with JAMES BOND in the best (and only) blaxsploitation Bond film, LIVE AND LET DIE! Speaking of dying, let’s check out the totally awesome death of DR. KANANGA!

One of Kotto’s more interesting films was BONE (1972) by the one and only LARRY COHEN…oh man, if you haven’t seen this one, you’re missing out!

BONE

And how could I not bring up the hilarious four letter filled film,MIDNIGHT RUN…where our main man plays FBI agent ALONZO MOSLEY!

Did you guys know that Yaphet played the lovable cannibalistic despot, IDI AMIN DADA, in some made for teevee movie where he faced off against CHARLES BRONSON?!

I didn’t…but I’m dying to see it!

Oh, one last thing…there’s even a HARDCORE BAND named after our man of the day…huh, who knew?
