Domo Arigato, Mr. Winston.

Awww geeze, one of the best Fx guys in the biz has passed away…on a Monday no less. Well, Stan doesn’t deserve to be an also-ran for Man-Up Mondays so this is his own post.

Stan Winston April 7, 1946 – June 15, 2008
From the AP:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stan Winston, the Oscar-winning special-effects maestro responsible for bringing the dinosaurs of “Jurrasic Park” and other iconic movie creatures to life, has died. He was 62.

Winston died at his home in Malibu surrounded by family on Sunday evening after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma, according to a representative from Stan Winston Studio.

Working with such directors as Steven Spielberg, James Cameron and Tim Burton in a career spanning over four decades, Winston created some of the most memorable visual effects in cinematic history. He helped bring the dinosaurs from “Jurassic Park,” the extraterrestrials from “Aliens, the robots from “Terminator” and even “Edward Scissorhands” to the big screen.

So everyone goes on and on and on about the Terminator series, Aliens, Jurassic Park, and Predator…but not me!

Has everyone forgotten about THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL? He totally designed the Wookie Family, you know!

Remember how awesome they were?

Or what about HEARTBEEPS?! He was nominated for an Academy Award, for Christ’s sake!

Wow…so much cooler than the Predator, right?

And why don’t people fawn over Mr. Winston for his totally badass design of the MR. ROBOTO mask he did for Styx?

Oh where’s your video? Well, the shit-birds over at Universal Music don’t cotton to no embedding…so, click here for Roboto Awesomeness!

Damn, he did some great work, huh? Domo, Mr. Winston…Domo, indeed!

Thanks for inspiring me to get back to work on my Heartbeeps fan fiction, I didn’t think there was an audience for it!
    R.I.P.S.W.

Is it erotic fan fiction? What am I talking about…is there any other kind?

What is The Heartbeeps!? Robot Andy Kaufman?! Whatever it is, it’s being added to my Netflix queue RIGHT NOW.

What is HEARTBEEPS?! Hoo-boy, brace yourself…and don’t be mad at me when you finally watch it…but it will help provide some solid groundwork for understanding Uncle Lancifer’s current literary dabblings, I’m sure.

Man, I can’t wait to read about those hot robots having totally awesome robo-sex!

Aqua looked into Val’s plastic eyes. surely he was not still afraid; the last 72 hours that they had been trapped inside the overturned ice cream truck told her at least that much, and yet he still resisted. He did not resist with his hands, God, no. But he did resist with his eyes and adamantly it seemed. Ever since she lubed his probonaught device with her gagatoil his glances avoided hers. Had she gone to far? Revealed too much of herself? Both of these questions were answered with a low humming that grew louder and began to jostle the ice cream truck’s very foundation. Aqua attempted to regain her sense of balance, but there were bigger forces controlling her primary functions now. Was this what “human'” felt like? Or was this something larger, something unbridled by the laws of the natural world? Perhaps it was simply the sensation that her French nubile-nannyquad had bragged about so often on those cold nights they snuggled together in robofugue. What was the term she had whispered in her audio sensor all so many quorgons ago? Aqua remembered with an electric chill down her spoingtal fuse…of course, she thought to herself, this is “Le petite malfunction”!!!

    wow.

I had completely forgotten about “Heartbeeps” until today. This is why I can’t live without your website. Next week you’ll be reminding me about “Small Wonder” or Glo Worms.
